Sustainability for Business: BedInABox® and One Tree Planted

“Celebrating Earth Day, Every Day!”

One Tree Planted is a 501 © (3) charitable organization that endeavors to improve reforestation globally. They plant trees on four continents for the following reasons: to replace timber, pulp and paper; improve biodiversity; aid in forest fire recovery; reduce CO2; fight climate change; clean the air; prevent soil erosion; clean water; reduce storms, flooding and landslides; create jobs; provide food to communities; promote health and protect endangered species. Their mission is to communicate the importance of trees and offer global communities accessibility to reforestation efforts. One Tree Planted is funded by and founded upon individuals, schools, and businesses who either donate, partner with or volunteer to help the cause. We at BedInABox®, a business ace in high quality mattress manufacturing, agree with their model for regional forest conservation, and therefore have partnered with One Tree Planted to help achieve this goal.

The best thing about partnering with One Tree Planted: anyone can participate and be a tree-planter. BedInABox® customers can become actively involved in their cause just by purchasing our Eco-Lux™ mattress! The One Tree Planted website also provides the option to start your own fundraiser or individually donate to the cause! One Tree Planted offers various ways to get involved and the organization works with other groups, including the United States Forest Service (USFS), several State Forest Services and Regional Conservation Districts, to make this happen.

One Tree Planted: What They Aim to Solve

Since its start in 2014, One Tree Planted has planted 1.75 million trees across 4 regions of the world. Their reforestation projects are located in: North America — USA (United States Forest Service, California, Colorado, Florida, Oregon), Canada (British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec), Mexico; South America — Peru, Brazil (Amazon Rainforest), Guatemala, Haiti, Bolivia, Colombia; Africa — Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Ghana; Asia — Indonesia, India, Philippines, Vietnam; and Australia.

One Tree Planted focuses on the interconnected benefits of planting trees, which is laid out by their six pillars: Air, Water, Biodiversity, Social Impact, Health and Climate. The company explains, “Trees help clean the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, and provide habitat to over 80 percent of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity. Forests provide jobs to over 1.6 billion people, absorb harmful carbon from the atmosphere, and are key ingredients in 25 percent of all medicines”.

While their primary focus is planting trees where needed most, One Tree Planted recognizes that their mission is part of a larger one. Not only is it necessary to protect existing forests AND plant new ones to create a net positive global benefit, but it’s also important for us to understand that awareness, education, public involvement, research, creativity, inspirational leadership, and community-based initiatives are interconnected components of a greater mission. If we want to create a greener world, we’ll need to work together: hence, the inception of our partnership.

BedInABox® and One Tree Planted

BedInABox® is proud to be just one of One Tree Planted’s many reforestation partners, working hard to empower their local communities to reforest, restore and protect forests and the benefits they provide. BedInABox® has partnered with One Tree Planted to increase our corporate social responsibility while making an impactful difference in our global sustainability story. With One Tree Planted, we can trust that our efforts will go a long way. For each Eco-Lux™ mattress model sold, we donate to One Tree Planted, who then plants a tree on our behalf. Adopting this One-for-One model has made going green even easier!

About Eco-Lux™/Our BedInABox® Sustainability Story

One of the great things about our community at BedInABox® is how we have created a model and system of sustainability that is congruent with our typical mattress production process. Our system uses sustainably sourced materials and ingredients, our mattresses are responsibly manufactured and packaged, and our company gives back. It is important to our team to make a positive environmental impact and to continuously improve our sustainability initiatives.

The perfect testimony to our sustainable mission is our Eco-Lux™ mattress. The Eco-Lux™ mattress is the only Bio-Preferred® memory foam mattress certified to contain 34% renewable content — meaning 34% of the mattress is made with renewable materials. The Eco-Lux™ is constructed only with foam that meets the USDA BioPreferred Certification and remains the ONLY memory foam mattress with this designation.

As highlighted in our sustainability blog story, the goal of the Bio-Preferred Program, managed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), is to increase the purchase and use of biobased products. Biobased products are derived from plants and other renewable agricultural, marine, and forestry materials and provide an alternative to conventional petroleum derived products. Bio-Preferred is both a component certification and an overall certification. Thus, with the USDA BioPreferred Certification, BedInABox® guarantees that all foam we use in our Eco-Lux™ mattress AND the Eco-Lux™ bed as a whole are USDA Bio-Preferred certified.

The BedInABox® team remains conscious about our environmental impact and the nature of our materials, both in production and disposal, to contribute to the greater goal of a greener world. You, as a customer and lovely human, can do your part by investing in responsibly-produced, renewable, plant-derived products for more sustainable sleep with our Eco-Lux™ mattress. In doing so, you are contributing to the cause of your sleep and to the greater cause of global reforestation.

BedInABox vs Casper

BedInABox vs Casper Boxed mattresses, mailed directly to the consumer, have become massively popular in the last decade. Compressing, rolling, and packaging a mattress into a smaller scale box, as well as selling and purchasing mattresses online, has become a much more practical process over the years. BedInABox is the original mattress in a box that stimulated the ecommerce mattress industry and gave customers the ability to purchase mattresses from the comfort of their own home. Since our conception, a lot of competitors have joined the market, offering a variety of mattress options in terms of comfortability, overall quality, and cost. Known for being a trendsetter in our industry, Casper has been one of our strongest contenders in the market. In this post, we want to explore the differences and similarities between our products based on 6 key-points. Number of options Casper , just like BedInABox, offers six different mattress sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Q...

Sleep Science in 2020

Sleep Science in 2020 Today, probably more than ever, sleep and its impact on our wellbeing is being studied. Doctors and scientists have concluded that sleep affects brain function, emotional states, metabolism, blood pressure, and many other key aspects of our health. Sadly, because of common distractions, noise, stress, and others, it is not uncommon to have difficulties falling asleep and/or sleeping through the night. However, thanks to technology , there are some products out there that will help you feel well-rested when you wake up the next morning. Using technology to help you snooze better is not a 2020 trend. Sleep disorders, such as apnea and snoring, have been treated with technology that responds directly to the patient’s breathing in many medical offices. Yet, thanks to how quickly technology is advancing in 2020, sleeping aids can be accessed easily from the convenience of our homes. Here are eight sleeping aids (divided between apps & gadgets) that yo...

Why People Choose Bed In A Box

Why People Choose Bed In A Box In 2004, three experts (a foam expert, a digital marketer, and a machine builder) got together in Tennessee and discussed what seemed like a crazy idea: what if we take a queen-sized mattress and put it in a box that freight companies accept? Fast-forward eighteen months and the first machine that made it possible to fit mattresses in smaller boxes was born. It’s been sixteen years since the start of our company, and now the market is full of other brands that specialize in the same area as us. So, with all the competing brands in the market, why should you choose Bed-In-A-Box ? Easy, we are the only brand who has maintained their original philosophy of not only providing their customers with comfortable, affordable sleep; but to maintain all aspects of our mattress’ manufacturing within the United States. Two years ago, our company decided to establish strong ties with NCFI , the American leader in the manufacturing of flexible polyurethane...
